POWER INFLATOR PROBLEM: inflator may fail due to foreign material in the mechanism, damage from impact by tanks, weights, or other causes. All functions should be inspected and tested before each use. Do NOT dive with any BCD that does not function correctly!
INFLATOR FAILS TO OPERATE: Surface testing: Make sure the tank valve is open, and the cylinder contains sufficient air. Check to see that the low pressure feed hose is properly connected. Inflator during a dive: Orally inflate the bladder if necessary to establish proper buoyancy.
INFLATOR VALVE STICK OPEN: Should the power inflator stick open causing an uncontrolled filling of the bladder and / or excessive leakage of air at the inflator perform the following steps. Hold the exhaust valve open and over your head to vent excess air as you disconnect the low pressure feed hose from the inflator. This problem requires you to immediately abort the dive!
EXHAUST VALVE OR OVER PRESSURE VALVE STICKS OPEN: If the exhaust valve on the inflator sticks open, hold the inflator in the lowest position possible so as to allow the bladder to hold air from that level up. Abort the dive and attempt to swim slowly at 1 ft per / second or less to the surface. Should excessive negative buoyancy be created, your weights may need to be released. The Eagle Z1 BCD uses a 2 speed release system / whereby each weight pocket can be activated independently offering more control. As you ascend the air inside the bladder will expand causing your ascent speed to increase. Follow those emergency guidelines as established by your SCUBA certifying agency.
FAILURE TO HOLD AIR: If for any reason the system should fail to provide adequate amount of air or provide necessary buoyancy, abort the dive and attempt to swim slowly at 1 ft per / second or less to the surface. Should excessive negative buoyancy be created, your weights may need to be released. The Eagle Z-1 BCD uses a 2 speed release system / whereby each weight pocket can be activated independently offering more control. As you ascend the air inside the bladder will expand causing your ascent speed to increase. Follow guidelines established by your SCUBA certifying agency.
WARNING: The above suggestions are based upon recreational no decompression sport diving. Decompression divers must have a complete redundant system to handle all the problems listed above. We recommend the Twin Wing BCD with duel independent bladders and inflator for all high risk and advanced diving activities including deep, cave, and wreck diving.
POST DIVE BCD CLEANING: Rinse thoroughly with fresh clean water after each use. Rinse inside of the bladder by holding the exhaust button on the inflator system open and allowing fresh water to partially fill the bladder. Rock and " Slosh" the water around to dissolve any salt crystals. Drain completely and repeat. Hang upside down and allow to dry while partially inflated. Drain out any residual water through the exhaust hose while upside down. Store it partially inflated in a cool dry place.
ANNUAL INSPECTION: Your BCD should be inspected and professionally maintained by your authorized Eagle Z1 dealer at least once per/year.
